Intentions

Have you ever had one of those days where you just can’t seem to accomplish anything you are trying to do? Or, where everything you touch you drop? Worse yet, have you ever been in a conversation about Jesus where you just can’t seem to get the right words out? Take comfort, God knows what you were trying to do. “the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of the soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

The bad thing: He knows what I am trying to do! God can see my half-heartedness. He knows when I lob out a line of malarky. He knows when I do not care and when I am being mean- even when I say nice things (bless your heart). God can see when I have not tried. Or-

The good thing: He knows what I am trying to do! God can see that you are trying. He knows what you were trying to say, prove, and accomplish. Not only that, but He also knows how hard your day has been, the things going on at home, and the stressors you have to deal with. God loves with a love that is immeasurable and sees, not what words came out, but the ones you meant to come out- and what you were trying to lead someone to understand. Everything will be alright because God knows the intention of your heart. A heart that is trying to love like He loves. Chase this! Make your heart a heart like His!

I have not always gotten the answer right. One of the things I despise the most is having my words taken out of context. Our current culture is one where double meaning is looked for in most statements we make. “You look nice today” can be polite or predatory as determined by the attitude of the person receiving the comment and not the person making it. I thank my God that He knows what I am trying to say, even when I get the words all wrong. Job, not finding a positive way forward in his miserable state, tells his friends “[God] knows the way that I take; when He has tried me, I shall come out as gold”. Take comfort in knowing that God sees inside you. Especially on those days where everything seems to be going wrong. God knows, and He loves what you were trying to do.
