Allegiance Based on Faith

On Sunday, January 10, the Washington Post had a headline which read something to the effect of “Deluded by Trump, Mob Threatens Death”. Think about that for a minute. These people were so disappointed in President Trump and they felt he had failed them so miserably that they called for Vice President Pence to be hung! In fact, two police officers DID die from that mob scene. How sad.

You are a Christian. You have promised to live your life for Christ. Your purpose in life is to lead others to Him. “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.” (Song: The Solid Rock)

Do you “wholly lean on Jesus’ name”? How have you reacted to political issues over the past 12 years? (I say 12 because some were just as unhappy with President Obama as many are with President Trump.) Are you allowing yourself to be led by the media and not by God’s word?

Jesus never encouraged mob rule, nor did He condone physical fighting in His name. Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.) So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” John 18:10-11, 36

Contrarily, we are commanded to respect our government. 1 Peter 2:13 - 17, Romans 13:1 - 2 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.”

“His oath, His covenant, His blood; support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.” As a Christian, make sure you are fit to wage the war of the Spirit, not bickering battles of the beast (Ephesians 6:10 – 20).
